Faith's Story

Where this work began

Faith grew up in Pudu, Kuala Lumpur, the daughter of hawker parents who worked long hours and loved her deeply. They gave her everything they had. What they could not give her was a map.

There was no one to ask how to navigate ambition, or stress, or the quiet uncertainty of wanting a life beyond what she had seen. So she did what many children in that position learn to do. She figured it out herself. She adapted quickly, recovered quickly, and learned to keep moving even when something underneath her had not caught up.

That pattern, holding everything alone and calling it strength, followed her into adulthood. It also became the reason she understood, long before she had the language for it, that people can look completely capable and still be carrying something too heavy to name.

Why counseling, and why EMDR

Faith trained as a counselor because she kept noticing the same quiet pattern in the people she sat with. Not the obvious crises, but the tension beneath high achievement. The exhaustion beneath responsibility. People who looked fine on the outside, whose bodies told a different story.

Early in her career, she worked with a client who was, by every outward measure, doing well. Sharp, respected, composed. And yet his body would not cooperate. Everything he ate, he threw up. He sat across from her with his hands shaking slightly, trying to hold everything together.

That session stayed with her. It was the first time she understood, not just intellectually but in her own body, that competence and suffering can live in the same person at the same time.

She did not pursue EMDR because she wanted another technique to add to her practice. She pursued it because the people in front of her had already done the reflecting. They understood their patterns. They could explain exactly where their reactions came from. And still, their bodies reacted the same way, every time.

Talking had done what talking could do. Something else was needed to reach what the mind alone could not resolve.

From therapy room to Private Leadership Work

Over time, Faith noticed her work shifting. The people who came to her were not in crisis and were not unsafe. They were capable, successful, and still struggling in ways that did not make sense to them.

Their difficulty was not about the past. It was about capacity, about internal systems that had never been given the chance to catch up with how much responsibility they were now carrying.

This is where EMDR-informed work and coaching began to blur for Faith. She found that certain elements of EMDR, particularly the parts focused on resourcing and moving forward, were not only helping people process what had happened to them. They were helping people become who they were already becoming.

D Spark Lab grew out of that observation. It is not therapy, and it is not conventional coaching. It is private, internal pattern work for people who have already done the insight work and have reached its limit, people who do not need to be told what to do next, but need their nervous system to feel safe enough to do it.

Faith built this practice from her own experience of learning to survive alone, and from years of watching capable people do the same. Her work today is an extension of the same quiet question that shaped her own life.

Philosophy

Why insight is not always enough.

Humans are shaped by past conditioning, beliefs, emotions, and experiences, often outside conscious awareness. Under pressure, these patterns organize reactions automatically.

This work allows those patterns to settle and reorganize, restoring freedom of response.

"Insight does not reorganize patterns. Patterns reorganize when the system settles."

The goal is not self-improvement. It is the recovery of natural capacity.

About Faith Foo

Faith Foo is recognized within the counseling and transformation field for her depth of presence and her ability to perceive patterns beneath behavior.

As one of Malaysia's early EMDR-informed transformation practitioners, her work bridges psychological understanding with leadership reality. She works with leaders and high-performing individuals whose external capability has outgrown their internal organization.

Her approach is calm, structured, and deeply attuned to how the nervous system carries stress, responsibility, and accumulated adaptation.

Clients often arrive highly self-aware. They leave experiencing greater ease, internal steadiness, and authentic authority.

Training

Training behind the work

Faith Foo is a licensed counsellor in Malaysia and an EMDRIA certified therapist, a credential she has held since 2020 and renews on an ongoing basis through consultation hours, documented clinical work, and continuing education. Her training includes clinical trauma specialization through the Arizona Trauma Institute, a master's degree in counselling from HELP University, and Certified Coaching and Mentoring Professional standing through ITD World.

She has also completed advanced training in compassionate inquiry with Dr. Gabor Maté, a framework used internationally in trauma-informed practice.

For several years, Faith has worked directly with hospital staff at Pantai Hospital Kuala Lumpur, running recurring workshops on resilience and combating burnout. This is not theoretical work. It is the same internal pattern work, tested repeatedly with professionals under sustained clinical pressure.

She has spent close to two decades in clinical and coaching practice, as founder of Faith Foo Counseling and co-founder of two other mental health practices in Kuala Lumpur.

Renewal, for Faith, is not a formality. It requires the discipline to keep refining, and the humility to stay supervised, long after credentials alone would suffice.
